Every March, Valencia builds giants, fills the streets with brass bands and powder, and then burns the whole thing down.
Every March, Valencia turns into fire and noise. Towering ninots line the streets for days — satirical, ornate, and often technically insane — before La Crema sends them up in flame.
The Figures
Some are playful, some grotesque, some astonishingly detailed. The best ones stop you cold: lacquered faces, embroidered costumes, armor, dragons, impossible expressions lit by streetlamps.
The Street
What stays with you just as much is the crowd around them — falleras in silk and gold brocade, older locals stopping to talk, kids weaving through the plaza, everyone out late.
After the Noise
And then Valencia gives you quiet again: sea light at the edge of the city, gold on the water, a cat posted up like it owns the whole sunset.
Plan Ahead
Book lodging early, wear shoes you don't mind losing to ash, and bring earplugs — the fireworks are loud.
